1935 Chatham Coloured All-Stars
"Wellington Shagonosh was good. Any time a pitcher can limit Bill McFadden, 'Rowboat' Thompson and gang to four singles, it can taken for granted that they fellow on the hill-top has something on the ball." (Chatham Daily News, August 1935)
"For these three important contests the Stars will need to be close to top form. They showed yesterday that they were when after losing a morning engagement they evened up an Emancipation Day doubleheader with Taylor's Colored All-Stars of Detroit with a 9 to 6 victory...The win achieved largely on the work of Willie Shagonosh, ace pitcher, and Flat Chase, slugger extraordinary, and the drive given the team by Captain Don Washington." (Chatham Daily News, August 2nd, 1935)
"The Stars have Provided district fans with the best baseball they have watched in half a dozen years. That they played below normal in their O.B.A.A. semi-final series with the Essex County League titlists was perhaps an excusable letdown. No team can go on playing such outstandingly good ball over a long period without an eventual slip." (Jack Calder, Chatham Daily News, September 20th 1935)
