Acadian Diaspora
Description of Pedagogical Tool:
Our pedagogical tools include character and destination cards as well as instructional videos for an activity designed for a Grade 7 History lesson. The Acadian diaspora character and destination cards along with the accompanied videos provide teachers with an interactive learning tool to engage students with the topic of the Acadian expulsion of 1755. The three videos that will be shown to the class provide instructions on how to construct a familial settlement, the dispersion process, and finally instructions for the RAFT closing activity. Our Acadian diaspora simulation allows students to develop empathy and engage in kinesthetic learning through taking on the role of Acadians, building settlements and ultimately dispersing around the classroom.
