Original Exhibit (2005-06)

Editing Practicum Course, English Department, University of Windsor

This exhibit is the result of several years of work done by the ENGL 26-305 [now 4003] Editing Practicum class at the University of Windsor where professors Suzanne Matheson and Marty Gervais put the spotlight upon the forgotten southwestern Ontario writer Raymond Knister whose life was cut short by drowning in Lake St. Clair.

However without the encouragement, advice and direction by Knister’s daughter, Imogen Knister Givens, and others, like writers James Reaney and John B. Lee, as well as Carl Spadoni at the McMaster University Archives in Hamilton, Ontario, this exhibition would not have been possible.

Also special thanks to both Jamie Gaunt and Catherine Elsdon, two University of Windsor students, who graciously assisted in preparing some of the items for this show.

Graphic design and installation were done by staff of Windsor’s Community Museum including Madelyn Della Valle, Heather Butt, Mary Ann Eppert, Leisa Dawson, Mary-Elizabeth Marentette and Richard Egan.

Digital Exhibit (2022)

Archives and Special Collections, Leddy Library, University of Windsor

The digital version of the exhibit was designed by Kawmadie Karunanayake, Co-op Librarian (2022 term), and Sarah Glassford, University Archivist. It was created to be a translation of the physical exhibit, keeping as close as possible to the structure and content of the original, while also updating it to be more accessible and legible for a digital platform. Any typographical errors in the original exhibit texts were silently corrected.

Special thanks to Madelyn Della Valle and Melissa Phillips, at Museum Windsor, Michael Fish at Windsor’s Municipal Archives, Mary Saffell at TCU Mary Couts Burnett Library, Alex Dale at Fort Malden Historic Site, and Meg Reiner at the Marsh Historical Collection, for their help in gathering information about the exhibit and its component parts, and for the provision of some of the archival photos. Thanks also to Edyta Saklak, Systems Technical Support Assistant at Leddy Library for her help in designing the site.
